Autobiography

Roberto Javier Soria is a student from London South Bank University. He is currently studying his third year in Mechanical Engineering.  As this is his final year to graduate and obtain his Bachelor degree, he is determined to work hard and get the grades needed which will allow him to do a Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Brunel University London.

As a child he has had people he looked up to, he was inspired by hard working people which struggled to obtain a good job due to the lack of qualifications. For this reason, Roberto learn to value the importance of education and most importantly he learn to value the struggles these people had to go through to be where they were. This makes Roberto is a very ambitious person without any limitations, always working at his best to achieve a great result.

From a young age Roberto has been interested in engineering, his dream was and will always be to become a pilot, however due to health issues he gave up that dream and focused himself on a subject which was close enough to aviation, mechanical engineering. Once he graduates he hopes to follow a path in field of aviation and make a career out of it.

For his final year project in university, Roberto will be working with robots. The aim of his project will be to control the movement of a robot, this could be achieved with an Xbox kinetic camera, which will capture the movement of a person, and these movements will be transferred and copied by a robot. This project still under development and it will involve a lot of research and calculations, he is expecting to find a lot of challenges and obstacles but he is determined to overcome these to achieve the best possible outcome.

For the past three years Roberto has been involved in different projects and events which allowed him to obtain great knowledge, understanding and an insight of what he has studied and will be studying in the future. Roberto graduated from Lambeth College in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. In this course he was able to build an infrared alarm, which gave him a great understanding of electrical equipment, components and the theory behind them. This project gave him a lot of confidence to believe in himself and show him that a person does not have to be smart to achieve something, he just needs that “willing” power to make it possible. In the first and second year of University, he was involved in a group research, 2 group projects and a trip to a power plant in London. These projects and the research taught him to appreciate the importance there is in the design, theory and practical side, behind a car suspension system, the blade of a wind turbine and the structural design and theory of a bridge. A field trip to Farley Nuclear Power Plant also helped him to test the knowledge acquired so far, from his course. This was achieved by calculating the overall efficiency of the power plant. These group projects also taught him the importance of team work, responsibility and other different sets of skills which he is eager to put into test once he has his first professional job.
